The Walden School Admission Policy
Applicants will be eligible for admission to The Walden School based on:
- The potential of the applicant to benefit from the education available
- The capacity of the school to meet the needs of the student
- The extent to which the student’s admission will enable The Walden School to maintain its diversity
At The Walden School, we are committed to maintaining a low student-to-teacher ratio and a rate of growth that ensures a stable learning environment for our students. Because of this, many classes may have waiting lists (especially at the Primary levels Grade I – IV). While we do our best to accommodate families and siblings of current students, even this is not always possible.
Waiting List
In the case of a fully subscribed class, applicants will be placed on a waiting list. The majority of our Kindergarten and Primary classes currently have a waiting list.
The language of Instruction- English
The school accepts students with no previous experience with English in Kindergarten and Grade I. For higher grades, students must demonstrate increasing levels of language proficiency and are assessed in the English language prior to admission.
Admissions are rolling and we will only consider applications from parents planning to be in the school for a minimum period of 3 years.
Placement
Students are placed based on their learning ability. Adjustments to placement can be made according to previous school experience or depend on the level of academic ability combined with emotional and social maturity.
We encourage all prospective parents to visit the school during one of our Tour Days with prior appointment.
Leaving the school
Students planning to leave The Walden School must give one month’s notice. This also applies to students leaving at the end of the school year.
*Policy has been approved by the Walden Education Foundation Board on 1 February 2020 and will be revisited annually.
