Academics
We would like our students to experience the satisfaction and confidence that comes from understanding academics. We seek to emphasise the thinking processes that underlie the various disciplines. With this understanding, we believe, comes an appreciation of the beauty of all these varied and interconnected aspects of human thought and insight.
For this to happen, students have to gain a skill and knowledge base in the core areas of language, mathematics, social studies and science. Our curriculum includes rigorous engagement with independent thought and work, as well as routine drill and practice. We equip students to learn from a variety of sources: texts, lectures, discussions, experiments and observations. With all of this in mind, we have drawn up core curricula based on Cambridge IGCSE framework. The curricula give the teachers a base and guideline on which to develop classes creatively. At The Walden School, teachers have the flexibility and autonomy to teach in their own style, while keeping learning outcomes firmly in mind.
Students take Cambridge IGCSE examination at the secondary school level and the Cambridge CIE GCE ‘A’ level examination at the senior secondary level.
Assessment
Nursery – Grade V
We have adopted various frameworks and tools developed by Harvard University Graduate School of Education that enable us to look at teaching analytically, develop new approaches to planning and make informed decisions about instruction.
Grades VI – XII
Assessment will be both formal and informal. We also document the student’s work in a portfolio.
Classe size
Classes are organised formally and informally in small groups of 5 – 9 students for a quality learning experience.
